What is the Kraft Heinz HireVue interview like?
Kraft Heinz uses HireVue for many intern and Corporate Management Trainee applicants. Candidates report 3 to 6 questions, usually with 30 seconds to think and up to 2 minutes to answer. Some report a longer prep window, and a few report one redo per question. Interns report about 72 hours to finish once the link arrives.
The questions are short and personal. Candidates report why Kraft Heinz, a failure, leaning on someone for help, and what ownership means to you. Ownership is one of the six values the company publishes. This page lists the reported questions, what each tests, and a worked answer for the ownership question.
| Questions | 3 to 6 |
|---|---|
| Time to think | 30 seconds to 3 minutes |
| Time to answer | up to 2 minutes |
| Retakes | no redo, or one redo per question on some invites |
| When it comes | after the online application and games-based assessment, before live interviews |
| Who gets it | summer internships and the Corporate Management Trainee program |

What does Kraft Heinz look for in a HireVue interview?
Kraft Heinz publishes six values: we are consumer obsessed, we dare to do better every day, we champion great people, we demand diversity, we do the right thing, and we own it. The reported questions test we own it most directly.
- Ownership. A result you treated as yours, including the parts that went wrong.
- Learning from failure. A real miss, what you learned, and what you changed.
- Teamwork. A time you asked for help or relied on someone, and how you made it work.
- Leadership. A team you led and what you did to move it forward.
- Consumer interest. A product you like and a reason that shows you think about the people who buy it.
Build one story for each line above. Every question below is asking for one of them.

What does a strong Kraft Heinz HireVue answer sound like?
Question: "What does ownership mean to you?"
"To me, ownership means treating a result as mine from start to finish, including the parts nobody checks. Here is an example. I ran the merchandise table for my college's spring festival. My job on paper was to staff the table. On the first day I noticed we were selling out of small shirts by noon while the large sizes sat in boxes. Nobody had asked me to look at the order sheet, but I pulled last year's sales, saw the same pattern, and called the printer that night to move part of our second order to smaller sizes. It cost a rush fee of about 40 dollars. We sold out by the last day and made around 600 dollars more than the year before. I also wrote a one-page note for next year's team so they would not repeat the mistake. That last step is the part I think of as ownership. The job ends when the next person is set up to do it better."
Why it scores: It defines the word in one line, then proves it with a story where the person went past the job on paper and owned the cost. It maps to the we own it value. About 65 seconds spoken.
How do you prepare for the Kraft Heinz HireVue in three days?
Specific to Kraft Heinz:
- Have a favorite product ready. Candidates report the question. Pick one you actually buy and say why, in a way that shows you think about the customer.
- Bring a real failure. The question asks what you learned, so spend most of the answer on what you changed after.
- Plan for two steps. Candidates report a games-based assessment before the video, so leave time for both inside the deadline.
For any HireVue:
- Day 1. Write one story per competency in the list above. Two or three sentences each: the situation, what you decided, what happened.
- Day 2. Say each story out loud on a two-minute timer. Most people run long the first time. Cut until each one ends on the result with time to spare.
- Day 3. Run the reported questions cold, in one sitting, no notes. Then set up the room: quiet, camera at eye level, light on your face, wired internet if you have it.
The full setup checklist and a five-day version of this plan are in the free HireVue practice guide.
After you submit, results often take a week or more. Here is how to follow up after an interview if the window passes, and a salary negotiation email for when the offer comes. Applying for a move up where you already work? See promotion interview questions.
