What the Deloitte HireVue looks like
Deloitte uses HireVue widely for its campus and early-career hiring. Candidates report 5 to 7 questions, which is longer than most banks, with 30 seconds to think and up to 3 minutes to answer. No retakes on the scored questions.
Deloitte publishes its shared values and its questions follow them: serve with integrity, take care of each other, collaborate for measurable impact. This page lists the reported questions, what each tests, and a worked answer, plus how to pace a longer screen.
| Questions | 5 to 7 |
|---|---|
| Time to think | 30 seconds |
| Time to answer | up to 3 minutes |
| Retakes | none on the scored questions |
| When it comes | after the application, before live interviews or the assessment day |
| Who gets it | campus and early-career programs in consulting, audit, tax, and advisory |
What candidates report for early-career screens. Deloitte can change the bank by role and by year.
The clock and the format are the same HireVue product every employer uses. The timing guide covers what happens when the timer runs out, and how HireVue scoring works covers what the recording is scored on.
What Deloitte is screening for
Deloitte's shared values are lead the way, serve with integrity, take care of each other, foster inclusion, and collaborate for measurable impact. Most reported questions test collaboration and impact.
- Collaboration. A result that needed more than one person, with your part named.
- Integrity. A hard, honest call.
- Measurable impact. A result with a number on it.
- Adaptability. A change you absorbed and kept moving through.
- Motivation for Deloitte. A reason specific to the service line you applied to.
Build one story for each line above. Every question below is asking for one of them.
Deloitte HireVue questions candidates report
These are the questions candidates report from recent Deloitte screens, with the competency each one is built to test. Your set will be a mix of these and close variants.
- Tell me about a time you worked with others to achieve a measurable result. (Collaboration, impact)
- Why Deloitte, and why this service line? (Motivation)
- Describe a time you had to adapt to a significant change. (Adaptability)
- Tell me about a time you had to deliver difficult news to a client, teammate, or manager. (Integrity, communication)
- Describe a time you helped a teammate who was struggling. (Taking care of each other)
- Tell me about a time you had to learn a new tool or process quickly. (Learning speed)
- Describe a project you are proud of. What was your specific contribution? (Ownership)
For the shape of each answer type, see HireVue interview questions by format. For the answer structure itself, the STAR method guide has worked examples.
A worked answer, timed to the clock
Question: "Tell me about a time you worked with others to achieve a measurable result."
"Three of us ran the student-run tax clinic last spring. The measurable problem was that clients waited an average of 50 minutes and about a fifth left before being seen. My part was intake. I built a one-page form clients filled out in line so the preparer had the documents sorted before the client sat down, and I trained the two greeters to check it. My teammates handled scheduling and the preparer roster. By the fourth week the wait was down to about 20 minutes and walkouts were under five percent. We served 40 percent more clients than the prior spring with the same volunteers. My piece was the form and the front of the line. The result took all three."
Why it scores: A baseline, a specific contribution, credit shared honestly, and two numbers at the end. About 70 seconds spoken.
How to prepare for the Deloitte HireVue in three days
Specific to Deloitte:
- Pace for a longer screen. Six or seven answers at 2 minutes each is 15 minutes of talking. Keep water nearby and take the think time.
- Have a number in every story. "Measurable impact" is in Deloitte's values and the question asks for it.
- Say the service line. Consulting, audit, tax, and risk advisory do different work. Know which one you applied to and why.
For any HireVue:
- Day 1. Write one story per competency in the list above. Two or three sentences each: the situation, what you decided, what happened.
- Day 2. Say each story out loud on a two-minute timer. Most people run long the first time. Cut until each one ends on the result with time to spare.
- Day 3. Run the reported questions cold, in one sitting, no notes. Then set up the room: quiet, camera at eye level, light on your face, wired internet if you have it.
The full setup checklist and a five-day version of this plan are in the main HireVue guide.
