What the Boeing HireVue looks like
Boeing uses HireVue for internships and many early-career roles. Candidates report 5 to 7 questions with 30 seconds to think and up to 3 minutes to answer. No retakes on the scored questions.
Boeing puts safety and quality first in its published values, and the questions show it. Expect at least one about a time you spotted a problem and what you did. This page has the reported questions, what each tests, and a worked answer.
| Questions | 5 to 7 |
|---|---|
| Time to think | 30 seconds |
| Time to answer | up to 3 minutes |

What candidates report for early-career screens. Boeing can change the bank by role and by year.
The clock and the format are the same HireVue product every employer uses. The timing guide covers what happens when the timer runs out, and how HireVue scoring works covers what the recording is scored on.
What Boeing is screening for
Boeing's published values start with safety, quality, and integrity. The reported questions test those three more than anything else, then teamwork and problem solving.
- Safety and quality mindset. Stopping or flagging something that was not right, even when it slowed things down.
- Teamwork. A group result on a technical or hands-on task.
- Integrity. Reporting a mistake, your own or someone else's, the right way.
- Problem solving. A method, not a guess.
- Motivation for Boeing. A reason tied to a program, a product, or the work of the group.
Build one story for each line above. Every question below is asking for one of them.
Boeing HireVue questions candidates report
These are the questions candidates report from recent Boeing screens, with the competency each one is built to test. Your set will be a mix of these and close variants.
- Tell me about a time you noticed a safety or quality problem. What did you do? (Safety and quality mindset)
- Why Boeing, and why this role? (Motivation)
- Describe a time you made a mistake on a task that mattered. How did you handle it? (Integrity, accountability)
- Tell me about a technical or hands-on project you completed with a team. (Teamwork)
- Describe how you approach a problem you have never seen before. (Problem solving)
- Tell me about a time you had to follow a process you disagreed with. (Discipline, judgment)
- Describe a time you had to meet a deadline without lowering the quality of the work. (Quality under pressure)
For the shape of each answer type, see HireVue interview questions by format. For the answer structure itself, the STAR method guide has worked examples.
A worked answer, timed to the clock
Question: "Tell me about a time you noticed a safety or quality problem. What did you do?"
"On my senior design team we were building a small test rig, and the night before our demo I noticed one of the mounting bolts was a different grade than the drawing called for. The right bolt was across campus and the shop was closed. The easy move was to run the demo and swap it later. I told the team we should not run it under load with the wrong part, and I called our advisor. He agreed. We did the demo the next morning after the shop opened, an hour late, with the right bolt. The professor grading us said the delay was the best decision the team made all semester. The rig never had a problem. The point was not the bolt. It was that we did not guess."
Why it scores: A real trade-off between the deadline and the standard, the standard wins, and a consequence that is not a disaster story. About 60 seconds spoken.
How to prepare for the Boeing HireVue in three days
Specific to Boeing:
- Prepare a safety or quality story from any setting. A kitchen, a lab, a warehouse, a job site, or a school shop all count.
- Show your method on the problem-solving question. Say the steps you take, in order.
- For "why Boeing," name a program or product and say what about the work draws you.
For any HireVue:
- Day 1. Write one story per competency in the list above. Two or three sentences each: the situation, what you decided, what happened.
- Day 2. Say each story out loud on a two-minute timer. Most people run long the first time. Cut until each one ends on the result with time to spare.
- Day 3. Run the reported questions cold, in one sitting, no notes. Then set up the room: quiet, camera at eye level, light on your face, wired internet if you have it.
The full setup checklist and a five-day version of this plan are in the main HireVue guide.
