What is the Emirates HireVue interview like?
Emirates names HireVue in its own hiring materials for customer service roles at the airport and in the contact centre, and for pilots. Customer service candidates report about 6 recorded questions, then 2 short games. Prep sites report about 30 seconds to think and about 90 seconds to answer. If you list a second language, expect a question or two in that language as well.
Many cabin crew applicants also report a one-way video step before the recruitment day, often on HireVue, but Emirates does not name the platform on its cabin crew pages. Either way, the questions are about customers, ethics, and working with people from many countries. This page has the questions candidates report, what each tests, and a worked answer for the multicultural team question.
| Questions | about 6 |
|---|---|
| Time to think | 30 seconds |
| Time to answer | about 90 seconds |
| Retakes | no clear rule, though some could review an answer before submitting |
| When it comes | after recruiters shortlist your application; for customer service roles it is the last step listed before an offer |
| Who gets it | airport, contact centre, and other customer service roles, plus pilots; some cabin crew applicants report it too |

What does Emirates look for in a HireVue interview?
Emirates does not publish a short list of core values. Its careers site leads with safety and wellbeing and with diversity and belonging, and says its people come from 170 nationalities. The reported questions test service, ethics, and teamwork across cultures.
- Service. A time you calmed a difficult customer and solved the real problem.
- Working across cultures. Getting along with coworkers whose language or habits differ from yours.
- Integrity. A moment you chose the right thing when an easier option was there.
- Motivation. A reason for Emirates and this role that goes past travel perks.
- Clear English. Short, organized answers a recruiter can follow on the first listen.
Build one story for each line above. Every question below is asking for one of them.
What questions does Emirates ask on HireVue?
These are the questions candidates report from recent Emirates screens, with the competency each one is built to test. Your set will be a mix of these and close variants.
- Why Emirates, and why this role? (Motivation, research)
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a difficult customer. (Service, composure)
- Tell me about a time you gave excellent customer service. (Service)
- Describe a moment when you chose the ethical course of action. (Integrity)
- How do you work with colleagues from many different nationalities? How do you avoid conflict? (Working across cultures)
- What is one thing customers are often unhappy about, and how would you handle it? (Judgment, service recovery)
- Why should Emirates select you for this customer-facing role? (Self-presentation)

What does a strong Emirates HireVue answer sound like?
Question: "How do you work with colleagues from many different nationalities? How do you avoid conflict?"
"I worked two summers at a hotel front desk with people from about nine countries. Most days it was easy, but one week two coworkers stopped speaking to each other. One thought the other was rude because she gave short, direct instructions. Where she grew up, that was normal and polite. I got along with both of them, so I asked them to take a break with me and explain how they were raised to give instructions at work. They both laughed, because each had thought the other was being disrespectful on purpose. After that we made one small rule for the shift: if something sounds rude, ask before you assume. I still use that rule. I would bring the same habit to Emirates, where the people I work with on any given day could come from many different countries."
Why it scores: It shows a real conflict, a specific fix, and a habit the person still uses. It ties back to the job without reciting facts about the airline. About 60 seconds spoken.
How do you prepare for the Emirates HireVue in three days?
Specific to Emirates:
- Speak slowly and clearly. Candidates report that good English matters, and each answer has to be easy to follow on one listen.
- Expect the games. Customer service candidates report a number memory game and a shape game after the questions. Each takes a few minutes, so leave time for them.
- Prepare an ethics story. Candidates report a question about choosing the right thing, and most people only prepare customer stories.
For any HireVue:
- Day 1. Write one story per competency in the list above. Two or three sentences each: the situation, what you decided, what happened.
- Day 2. Say each story out loud on a two-minute timer. Most people run long the first time. Cut until each one ends on the result with time to spare.
- Day 3. Run the reported questions cold, in one sitting, no notes. Then set up the room: quiet, camera at eye level, light on your face, wired internet if you have it.
The full setup checklist and a five-day version of this plan are in the free HireVue practice guide.
After you submit, results often take a week or more. Here is how to follow up after an interview if the window passes, and a salary negotiation email for when the offer comes. Applying for a move up where you already work? See promotion interview questions.
