What CDL employers look for on a resume
CDL jobs are in trucking companies, local delivery fleets, construction, and city services. Hiring managers scan for three things first:
- Your credentials, near the top. CDL Class A, CDL Class B, CDL learner permit (CLP). List each one you hold, and training you are finishing with the expected date.
- Work that shows the job. Lines like "Drove tractor-trailers on regional or long-haul routes" or "Drove local delivery routes". Past jobs in other fields count when you show the same habits: reliability, care, safety, and teamwork.
- The skills they search for. Safe driving, Pre-trip inspections, Hours-of-service and ELD logs, Load securement, Backing and docking. The builder lets you tap the ones you have.
When you get the call, practice the CDL interview questions. Still need training? WIOA can pay for it: see WIOA funding for CDL training.
