Does WIOA pay for IT support training in Utah?
Yes, when the program is on the Utah Eligible Training Provider List and the job is in demand for your local board. Yes. Computer user support specialist is on the in-demand list in most regions, and CompTIA A+ and IT support certificate programs are among the most common technology entries on state Eligible Training Provider Lists. The money comes as an Individual Training Account (ITA) that a DWS Employment Center issues and pays straight to the school. WIOA is a grant; you do not pay it back if you finish.

What boards fund is the certification program: A+ (two exams), often with Network+ and the Google IT Support certificate alongside. What they usually will not fund is a long coding bootcamp that is not on the list. Where you apply in Utah
Utah Department of Workforce Services runs WIOA in Utah. You apply in person at a DWS Employment Center; single state workforce area (grandfathered from the prior federal law): DWS manages all funds and distributes them to its Employment Centers across nine Economic Service Areas, so the rules are the same everywhere.
Registration starts on jobs.utah.gov. Find the nearest center through the state locator at jobs.utah.gov. Commonly three to eight weeks from first appointment to a funded seat.
Who qualifies for a WIOA IT support grant in Utah?
- Adult program: 18 or older, able to work legally, and signed up for Selective Service if that applies to you. Training money goes first to people on public assistance, people with low income, and people who need basic skills. Veterans and eligible spouses go ahead of others in every program.
- Dislocated Worker program: laid off or given notice, on unemployment or ran out of it, or formerly self-employed.
- Youth program: 16 to 24 and out of school, or in school and low income.
No prerequisites beyond a high school diploma or GED at most programs. Ask whether the program includes hands-on labs and a help desk practicum, because employers hire for troubleshooting talk, not for the certificate alone.
Bring photo ID, your Social Security card, proof you can work, and income or layoff papers. Veterans bring the DD-214.
How to apply for WIOA IT support funding in Utah
- Go to jobs.utah.gov/career, select the training support you need, click How to Apply, then Apply Now; the application runs through the same DWS online account used for other department programs. Or walk into any Employment Center.
- Register in the DWS job system at jobs.utah.gov.
- Meet a case manager for eligibility and the employment plan; DWS can often verify SNAP or TANF status internally.
- Choose a program on the Training Provider List and receive the ITA.
At the counselor conversation: Ask which IT support programs are on the ETPL, whether the A+ exam vouchers are included, and whether the board covers a laptop as a supportive service when the program requires one.
When you pick the program: Compare the A+ pass rate, whether both exam vouchers are in the price, lab and practicum hours, and where graduates were hired.

After A+: the help desk interview
Help desk hiring runs on a scenario interview: a user cannot print, a laptop will not boot, a customer is angry. Managers listen for a troubleshooting sequence spoken out loud, in order, with the customer handled calmly. Graduates who can do that get offers; the certificate alone does not. Rehearse three scenarios before you apply.
