The credentials boards usually fund:
- Pharmacy technician certificate (8 to 40 weeks). Pharmacy law, calculations, compounding basics, and an externship in a retail or hospital pharmacy. The funded standard.
- PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) (Exam at the end). The national credential most employers require. The ExCPT from NHA is accepted by some employers and states.
- State registration or license (After the exam). Required in most states; the program should explain the state's steps and the fee.
- Sterile compounding (IV) certificate (4 to 12 weeks add-on). Hospital pharmacies pay more for it. Ask whether the board will fund it as part of the plan.

Who qualifies for a WIOA pharmacy technician grant in Utah?
- Adult program: 18 or older, able to work legally, and signed up for Selective Service if that applies to you. Training money goes first to people on public assistance, people with low income, and people who need basic skills. Veterans and eligible spouses go ahead of others in every program.
- Dislocated Worker program: laid off or given notice, on unemployment or ran out of it, or formerly self-employed.
- Youth program: 16 to 24 and out of school, or in school and low income.
Every state board of pharmacy runs a background check, and drug-related convictions can block registration even when WIOA funds the training. Ask the school and your counselor about the state's rules before intake. A high school diploma or GED is required.
Bring photo ID, your Social Security card, proof you can work, and income or layoff papers. Veterans bring the DD-214.
