Does WIOA pay for forklift certification in Wyoming?

Yes, when the program is on the Wyoming Eligible Training Provider List and the job is in demand for your local board. Yes, but usually not on its own. A forklift certification is a one-to-three-day course, and most boards will fund it inside a logistics, warehouse, or supply chain program of two to eight weeks rather than as a standalone training account. The money comes as an Individual Training Account (ITA) that a Wyoming Workforce Center issues and pays straight to the school. WIOA is a grant; you do not pay it back if you finish.

No fixed statewide cap; DWS policy applied by center staff against your career plan and the program cost.

OSHA requires the employer to certify each operator on the trucks the employer uses, so a school certificate is a head start rather than a license. Boards know this. The funded shape is a warehouse or logistics certificate that includes forklift, OSHA 10, and a credential such as the MSSC Certified Logistics Associate, which employers on the regional list ask for.

What the job pays: In Wyoming, forklift operators earned a median $28.76 an hour in May 2025, about $59,800 a year for full-time work (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

The training-account cap in the first section is the limit. A program that fits inside the cap gets funded in full. One that runs over gets funded up to the cap, with Pell Grants, state aid, or the school covering the rest. Ask for the cap at intake.

forklift license and certification in Wyoming: what you need

There is no state forklift license. OSHA requires the employer to train and evaluate each operator on the equipment they will use, and to re-evaluate at least every three years or after an accident or a change of equipment. A card from a training provider shows you finished a course; the employer still has to sign off on you for their own trucks.

Wyoming sets the fee, the renewal cycle and any extra hours through its own board or registry. Your counselor at a Wyoming Workforce Center confirms the current rule at intake, and a program on the state's approved list is built to meet it.

Where you apply in Wyoming

Wyoming Department of Workforce Services runs WIOA in Wyoming. You apply in person at a Wyoming Workforce Center; single statewide workforce area; the same rules apply in Cheyenne, Casper, Gillette, and Jackson.

Registration starts on Wyoming at Work. Find the nearest center through the state locator at dws.wyo.gov. Usually a few weeks from first appointment to a funded seat in a single-area state.

Who qualifies for a WIOA forklift grant in Wyoming?

  • Adult program: 18 or older, able to work legally, and signed up for Selective Service if that applies to you. Training money goes first to people on public assistance, people with low income, and people who need basic skills. Veterans and eligible spouses go ahead of others in every program.
  • Dislocated Worker program: laid off or given notice, on unemployment or ran out of it, or formerly self-employed.
  • Youth program: 16 to 24 and out of school, or in school and low income.

You must be 18 to operate a forklift in most workplaces. Many warehouses run a drug screen and a background check. Physical requirements are modest, but the jobs involve lifting and standing for full shifts.

Bring photo ID, your Social Security card, proof you can work, and income or layoff papers. Veterans bring the DD-214.

How to apply for WIOA forklift funding in Wyoming

  1. Register on Wyoming at Work.
  2. Contact your Workforce Center; staff determine eligibility and explain the services.
  3. Build the career plan with center staff.
  4. Choose a program on the Wyoming ETPL in an in-demand occupation and receive the ITA.

At the counselor conversation: Ask whether the board funds a standalone forklift card or only a logistics certificate, which programs are on the ETPL, and whether employers on the regional list hire straight from them.

When you pick the program: Compare which credentials the program ends in (forklift card alone versus MSSC or OSHA 10), the length, the employers that hire graduates, and whether the school offers a CDL step after.

The Wyoming WIOA guide covers the state's intake in detail, and the national application guide covers the six steps everywhere.

After the card: the warehouse interview

Warehouse interviews are short and about reliability and safety. Supervisors ask about attendance, how you handle a near-miss, and whether you can work a shift pattern. Applicants who answer plainly with an example and who mention safety without being asked get the offer. Rehearse those before you apply.

Ask your board whether one is being added, and search the state's own list with your counselor.

How much does forklift training cost in Wyoming?

Most programs run $100 to $300 standalone; $1,000 to $4,000 for a logistics certificate and take 1 to 3 days standalone; 2 to 8 weeks in a logistics program. Exam and license fees: None beyond the course; MSSC exams around $75 each when included. A WIOA training account pays the school directly, and it usually covers the exam fee too.

How much do forklift operators make in Wyoming?

In Wyoming, forklift operators earned a median $28.76 an hour in May 2025, about $59,800 a year for full-time work (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

Will WIOA pay for forklift certification?

Usually inside a logistics or warehouse certificate rather than on its own. The standalone card is one to three days and employers often provide it free.

How much does forklift certification cost?

$100 to $300 standalone. Logistics certificates that include it run $1,000 to $4,000 and fit under every board's cap.

How long does forklift certification take?

One to three days. A warehouse or logistics program that includes it runs two to eight weeks.

How long does approval take?

Usually a few weeks from first appointment to a funded seat in a single-area state. The biggest delay is a missing paper. Bring everything to the first visit so you do not need a second one.

Can I apply online?

Part of it. You create your account on Wyoming at Work online. That is step one. But the eligibility decision happens with a workforce center staff at a Wyoming Workforce Center. Bring your papers to that visit.

What documents do I bring?

Bring a photo ID, your Social Security card, and proof you can work in the U.S. Bring pay stubs or a benefits letter. If you were laid off, bring the layoff letter or your unemployment letter. Veterans bring the DD-214. Men born in 1960 or later bring proof they signed up for Selective Service. If you never signed up and are 26 or older, ask the center what proof they accept.

Can I get WIOA more than once?

Sometimes. The law does not set a lifetime limit. Each local board sets its own rule. Some boards allow one training account per person. Some make you wait between two. Some allow a second one if it leads to a better job. Ask your board what its rule is before you pick a program.

Is there a waitlist?

Sometimes, near the end of a funding year. Boards get their money once a year and spend it down. If your board says the money is gone, ask to finish your intake now so you are first when the next money arrives. Ask for that date. In Wyoming, single statewide workforce area; the same rules apply in Cheyenne, Casper, Gillette, and Jackson.

Does it cover LPN / BSN / phlebotomy / CDL?

Yes, when the program is on the Wyoming list. The federal list shows 2 LPN or LVN programs, 4 BSN programs, 6 phlebotomy programs, 16 CDL programs in Wyoming, plus 17 CNA programs. A BSN takes four years, and most boards cap how long they fund, so ask before you plan on it. Your board also has to call the job "in demand."
