How much does forklift certification cost?
A forklift certification course on its own usually costs $100 to $300 and takes 1 to 3 days. Warehouse and logistics programs that include forklift cost $1,000 to $4,000 and take 2 to 8 weeks. Many workers pay nothing, because federal safety rules make employers train and evaluate every forklift operator.
The federal list of approved training shows 643 forklift programs across 41 states. The table below shows how many your state has, how long they run, and the best job result, so you can ask the right schools for a price.

The approved programs on each state's list are mostly the longer warehouse and logistics programs, not one-day courses. From the federal Eligible Training Provider data (U.S. Department of Labor, September 2026). "Best result" is the highest share working in the second quarter after leaving, among programs with at least 10 people finished. The federal list does not carry a reliable price per student, so ask each school for its price in writing. Oklahoma does not send its list to the federal index. Tap a state for its approved schools and how to apply there.
What the price covers
Usually included: Tuition, the certification card, steel-toe boots and safety gear, and the OSHA 10 card.
Exam and license fees: None beyond the course; MSSC exams around $75 each when included.
How long it takes: 1 to 3 days standalone; 2 to 8 weeks in a logistics program.
Ask each school for its full price in writing, including books, uniforms, background checks, and exam fees, so you compare the same thing.
How to get forklift training for free
- Your employer. OSHA requires employers to train and evaluate every forklift operator on the trucks they will drive (29 CFR 1910.178(l)). Most large warehouses certify new hires during onboarding at no cost, and staffing agencies that place warehouse workers often do the same.
- WIOA. If you qualify, WIOA can pay for a warehouse or logistics certificate that includes forklift, OSHA 10, and inventory skills. The free Navigator checks your eligibility in about a minute.
WIOA is a grant, not a loan. You apply at your local American Job Center. The WIOA forklift guide covers what boards pay for, and how to apply for WIOA walks through the steps.
