What a Willo interview is
Willo is a one-way interview tool. You get a link by email or text. You read each question and record your answer on your phone or computer. The hiring team reviews your answers later.
Willo gives you some room to get comfortable. You can practice first, nothing in practice is saved, and you review all your answers at the end. The employer still sets the answer time and how many retakes you get, so read each screen.
Willo is a one-way video interview company. The employer sets the rules, and the screen always shows how many retakes you have left.
| Questions | set by the employer. Answers can be video, audio, text, or multiple choice. |
|---|---|
| Time to think | no countdown in the vendor guide. You read the question, then press Begin Recording when you are ready. |
| Time to answer | set by the employer, from 1 to 5 minutes for video and audio questions. |
| Retakes | set by the employer, from zero up. The screen shows how many you have left. |
| Practice question | yes. You can practice with a sample question first, and nothing is saved. |
| Device | a browser on a phone, tablet, or computer. No app. Chrome is recommended, with at least 5 Mbps internet. |
| Deadline | set by the employer. Once you answer the first question, you must finish within 12 hours. |
| Who reviews it | people. Willo adds AI transcripts and summaries, and it says hiring decisions stay with people. |
The employer sets these numbers. Your invite or the first screen tells you yours.
Who uses it: Employers of all sizes, from retail and food delivery to energy, car makers, and consulting. Willo shows HelloFresh, EDF UK, and Toyota GB on its site, and candidates report that OC&C Strategy Consultants uses it.
What happens, step by step
- Open the link from your email or text invite. You do not need an app or a download.
- Close other tabs and apps. Allow your camera and microphone when asked.
- Practice with the sample question. Check your sound and light. Practice answers are not saved.
- Read each question, then press Begin Recording. Answer within the time shown, from 1 to 5 minutes.
- Press Save & Continue when you are happy. Use Re-record if the employer gave you retakes.
- Review all your answers at the end. Play each one back and check the sound.
- Share your availability if asked, then submit. You get a confirmation screen and an email.
Willo interview questions candidates report
The employer writes the questions, so yours will differ. These are the ones candidates report most, with what each one tests.
- Why do you want to work for us? (Motivation and research)
- Tell me about a time you worked well in a team. (Teamwork)
- Tell me about a challenge you faced and how you handled it. (Problem solving)
- A snack company wants to sell in a new region. How would you decide if it should? (Business sense and structure)
- What do you know about our company? (Research and real interest)
- How would you handle a demanding client? (Judgment with people)
- What are your greatest strengths? (Strengths backed by proof)
- What are your career goals? (Fit with the role)
Answer each one with a real example: what was going on, what you did, and how it ended. The STAR method guide shows the shape.
Tips for the Willo interview
Specific to Willo:
- Do not start until you have time to finish. Once you answer the first question, you have 12 hours to submit the whole interview.
- Willo lets you re-record if the employer allows it. The screen shows how many retakes you have left, so keep one in case of a sound problem.
- Play back every answer on the final review screen with the sound on. It is your last chance to catch a muted mic.
- If you see a Time to answer clock counting up, you can still submit after it runs over. The employer sees how long you took, retakes included.
For any recorded interview:
- Put the camera at eye level and the light in front of you, not behind.
- Use the think time to pick your example, not to write a script.
- Aim for 60 to 90 seconds per answer. End on how it turned out.
- Do it early in the window. If something breaks, you still have time to ask for a new link.
Willo vs HireVue
Willo gives you a sample question and a review screen to check all your answers before you submit. Its candidate guide shows no prep countdown before you record, while HireVue usually gives about 30 seconds. Willo says its AI writes transcripts and summaries, and people make the hiring decisions.
