What a Hireflix interview is
Hireflix is a one-way video interview tool. You get a link by email or text. You watch or read each question, then record your answer on camera. Nobody is on the call with you. The hiring team watches your videos later.
The employer sets almost every rule. That includes how many questions you get, how long you can think, how long you can talk, and how many takes you get. Read your invite and the first screen closely. Candidates report short interviews, with about 5 questions and 1 minute for each answer.
Hireflix is a one-way video interview company. The questions are often short videos recorded by the hiring team.
| Questions | set by the employer. Hireflix suggests 3 to 6, and candidates report about 5. |
|---|---|
| Time to think | set by the employer: none (recording starts 3 seconds after the question), 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, or no limit. |
| Time to answer | set by the employer. The default is 5 minutes, and candidates often report 1 minute. |
| Retakes | set by the employer for each question. Candidates report anywhere from no retakes to 3 takes. |
| Practice question | not described in the vendor help pages. You check your camera and mic before the first question. |
| Device | any phone, tablet, or computer with a camera. The vendor says you need no app or account. Chrome is the safe pick on a computer. |
| Deadline | set by the employer, usually a set number of hours or days after the invite. |
| Who reviews it | people. The hiring team watches your answers and rates them 1 to 5 stars. Hireflix also makes a written transcript. |
The employer sets these numbers. Your invite or the first screen tells you yours.
Who uses it: Small and mid-size employers, startups, nonprofits, and training programs. Code First Girls, Multiverse, and Ventura Travel publish candidate guides for their Hireflix interviews.
What happens, step by step
- Open the personal link in your invite email or text. You do not need to make an account.
- Allow your camera and microphone when the browser asks. Check your light and sound.
- Watch the intro video if the employer added one. It often explains the job and what happens next.
- Watch or read the first question. Many employers record their questions as short videos, and some cannot be paused, so listen closely.
- Use your think time, or press the button to answer now. If the employer set no think time, recording starts about 3 seconds after the question ends.
- Record your answer before the timer runs out. Record again if the employer gave you extra takes.
- Finish the rest of the questions. Your answers save as you go, and the hiring team gets a notice when you are done.
Hireflix interview questions candidates report
The employer writes the questions, so yours will differ. These are the ones candidates report most, with what each one tests.
- Tell me a little about yourself. (A clear, short summary)
- Why do you want this job? (Motivation and fit)
- What do you know about our company? (Research and real interest)
- Tell me about a challenge you faced at work and how you dealt with it. (Grit and problem solving)
- What are your greatest strengths? (Strengths backed by proof)
- How would your co-workers describe you? (Teamwork and people skills)
- Why should we hire you? (Match to the job)
Answer each one with a real example: what was going on, what you did, and how it ended. The STAR method guide shows the shape.
Tips for the Hireflix interview
Specific to Hireflix:
- Questions are often short videos of a real person, and some cannot be paused. Give the question your full attention the first time it plays.
- Check the think time on the first screen. If the employer set none, recording starts about 3 seconds after the question ends, so know your first sentence before you press play.
- Look for a button to answer now. If you are ready early, you can skip the rest of your think time.
- Plan to finish in one sitting. One employer guide says you cannot pause or close the interview once you start.
For any recorded interview:
- Put the camera at eye level and the light in front of you, not behind.
- Use the think time to pick your example, not to write a script.
- Aim for 60 to 90 seconds per answer. End on how it turned out.
- Do it early in the window. If something breaks, you still have time to ask for a new link.
Hireflix vs HireVue
Hireflix is a simpler tool, and the customers on its site are mostly small and mid-size groups. Think time can be zero, a set number of seconds, or no limit, while HireVue usually gives about 30 seconds. The vendor pages describe people rating your answers and do not describe AI scoring.
