What a VidCruiter interview is
VidCruiter is a hiring tool used by many governments, schools, and large employers. In a pre-recorded interview, you answer set questions on camera. No one is on the call. The hiring team watches your answers later and scores them.
The employer sets the number of questions, your prep time, your recording time, and how many attempts you get. Your invite may come from Hiringplatform.com. That is the name VidCruiter uses on its candidate pages.
VidCruiter Inc. makes it, and your invite, help pages, and tech check may show the name Hiringplatform.com instead.
| Questions | set by the employer. Every candidate for the job gets the same set. |
|---|---|
| Time to think | set by the employer for each question. One candidate reports about 10 minutes to prepare. |
| Time to answer | set by the employer for each question, with a clock on screen. |
| Retakes | set by the employer. One candidate reports 2 attempts per question. |
| Practice question | yes. A practice question comes first, and it is not used to judge you. |
| Device | a browser on a computer, phone, or tablet. No app. A computer with a headset works best. |
| Deadline | set by the employer. One candidate reports 48 hours. You can stop between questions and come back. |
| Who reviews it | people. The employer can turn on AI scores and notes, and the vendor says a person makes the decision. |
The employer sets these numbers. Your invite or the first screen tells you yours.
Who uses it: Government agencies, school districts, college admissions, contact centers, manufacturing, and hourly employers. VidCruiter names the Government of Canada, the Australian Government, and the Oregon Department of Human Services as users.
What happens, step by step
- Open the link in your invite email. It may come from Hiringplatform.com. Some employers ask you to make an applicant account first.
- Run the tech check. It tests your camera, microphone, and internet speed.
- Read the instruction page. Look for the number of questions, prep time, recording time, and attempts.
- Answer the practice question. It does not count, so use it to fix your light and sound.
- Read or watch each question. Use the prep time, then record your answer before the clock runs out.
- Watch your video back. Use another attempt if the employer allows one, then submit.
- Finish all the questions before the deadline. If you get cut off between questions, open the link again and pick up where you left off.
VidCruiter interview questions candidates report
The employer writes the questions, so yours will differ. These are the ones candidates report most, with what each one tests.
- Tell me about yourself. (A short, job-focused summary)
- Why are you interested in this job? (Real interest in the role)
- What are your biggest strengths? (Strengths backed by proof)
- What do you know about our organization? (Research)
- What makes you the right person for this position? (Match to the job)
- Where do you see yourself in five years? (Goals and staying power)
- Watch this video of an upset customer. Show how you would handle it. (Role-play and staying calm)
- Are you legally allowed to work in this country? (Yes or no screening)
Answer each one with a real example: what was going on, what you did, and how it ended. The STAR method guide shows the shape.
Tips for the VidCruiter interview
Specific to VidCruiter:
- Look for email from Hiringplatform.com. If your invite seems missing, search your inbox and spam folder for that name.
- Use the free tech check at hiringplatform.com/tech-check a day before you record. It tests your camera, mic, and internet.
- Ask for a redo only for problems outside your control. The vendor says employers mostly grant redos for things like a frozen connection or a failed recording.
- If something breaks, use the live chat. VidCruiter says its support team is open all day, every day. Tell them which question was affected.
For any recorded interview:
- Put the camera at eye level and the light in front of you, not behind.
- Use the think time to pick your example, not to write a script.
- Aim for 60 to 90 seconds per answer. End on how it turned out.
- Do it early in the window. If something breaks, you still have time to ask for a new link.
VidCruiter vs HireVue
Both tools let the employer set prep time, answer time, and attempts. One VidCruiter candidate reports about 10 minutes to prepare, while HireVue usually gives about 30 seconds. VidCruiter AI scoring is an option the employer can turn on or off.
