What a Talview interview is
Talview is used for video interviews, tests, and proctored exams. In a Talview one-way interview, you get a link, record answers to set questions, and the hiring team reviews them later. Talview calls this an asynchronous assessment.
Talview often adds test-style steps. You may enter a code sent to your email, run a system check, and allow your camera, mic, and screen. Some employers use Ivy, Talview's AI interviewer, which asks follow-up questions based on your answers.
Talview makes hiring and exam proctoring tools, so its interviews can include ID checks and camera monitoring.
| Questions | set by the employer. Some invites add written, multiple choice, or coding parts. |
|---|---|
| Time to think | set by the employer. A short countdown shows before each answer. |
| Time to answer | set by the employer, with a timer on screen. |
| Retakes | set by the employer. Some questions allow only one attempt. |
| Practice question | yes. A practice recording checks your camera and mic first. |
| Device | a laptop with Chrome works best. Edge and Firefox also work. The Talview Candidate app handles video interviews on a phone. |
| Deadline | set by the employer. The link can expire, and the timer keeps running if you lose internet. |
| Who reviews it | recruiters and hiring managers. Talview can also give AI scores, and its Ivy AI interviewer rates your words and body language. |
The employer sets these numbers. Your invite or the first screen tells you yours.
Who uses it: Large IT and services firms, retailers, universities, and testing groups. Talview names Cognizant, HCLTech, and Best Buy as customers, and Cognizant's interview app is built by Talview.
What happens, step by step
- Open the link in your email or text. Enter the email the invite went to and the code sent to you.
- Run the system check. Allow your camera, microphone, and screen if asked.
- Read the instructions. They show the format, the timing, and the rules.
- Do the practice recording. It shows how recording works and checks your camera and mic.
- For each question, use the countdown to think, then record. Click Stop recording when you are done.
- Click Retake if the employer allows it and you want a better answer.
- Submit and wait for the thank you page. Give feedback if asked.
Typical Talview interview questions
Each employer writes its own questions, and there is no public list of Talview questions. These are common screening questions that fit the Talview format, with what each one tests.
- Introduce yourself. (Clear, confident speaking)
- Why do you want this role? (Motivation)
- Tell us about a project you worked on. (Your real experience)
- Describe a problem you solved and how you did it. (Problem solving)
- A customer is unhappy with our service. What do you do? (Judgment in a real scenario)
- Tell us about a time you worked with a hard-to-work-with teammate. (Teamwork)
Answer each one with a real example: what was going on, what you did, and how it ended. The STAR method guide shows the shape.
Tips for the Talview interview
Specific to Talview:
- Use a laptop if you can. Talview says a laptop gives a more stable interview, and written or coding parts need a computer.
- Do not refresh or close the browser in the middle of a question. Talview warns this can end the question or the whole session.
- Look for a practice assessment link in your invite email. Talview offers one for proctored video assessments.
- If an AI interviewer named Ivy greets you, expect follow-up questions. Answer what was asked, then give one clear example.
For any recorded interview:
- Put the camera at eye level and the light in front of you, not behind.
- Use the think time to pick your example, not to write a script.
- Aim for 60 to 90 seconds per answer. End on how it turned out.
- Do it early in the window. If something breaks, you still have time to ask for a new link.
Talview vs HireVue
Both tools let the employer set the timing and retakes. Talview often adds exam-style steps, like a login code, ID or face checks, and screen access. Its Ivy AI interviewer can ask follow-up questions based on your answers, which a standard recorded interview does not do.
