South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation runs WIOA in South Dakota. A high school diploma or GED is required for the CDA. You need a childcare job or practicum to accrue the 480 experience hours; many centers hire trainees.
Bring photo ID, your Social Security card, proof you can work, and income or layoff papers. Veterans bring the DD-214. South Dakota also asks for: fafsa confirmation and the school’s financial aid award letter; assessment scores (workkeys, tabe, accuplacer, act, or an industry pre-test).
How to apply for WIOA early childhood education funding in South Dakota
- Register on SDWORKS; your case file and training request live there.
- Contact your Job Service office and complete the interview, assessment, and employment plan. The assessment must show reading and math readiness (WorkKeys against the ACT profile, TABE, Accuplacer, ACT, or an industry pre-test such as TEAS, HESI, or a CDL permit).

Center directors hire for warmth and judgment. They ask how you handle a biting toddler, a parent who is upset at pickup, and a child who will not nap, and they often ask you to lead a short activity. Graduates who answer with what they would say to the child and to the parent get the offer. Rehearse those three before you apply.
