How does WIOA work in New Orleans?
WIOA in New Orleans runs through JOB1. JOB1 is the City of New Orleans workforce agency and the operator of the parish's Business and Career Solutions Center, under the New Orleans Workforce Development Board and the Louisiana Workforce Commission. Louisiana Workforce Commission runs the state program, the HiRE (Louisiana Works) site, and the statewide Eligible Training Provider List. Reference: nola.gov/job1.
The path is this. Sign up on HiRE (Louisiana Works). Visit the JOB1 Business and Career Solutions Center. Finish the eligibility check and an assessment. Pick a program from the Louisiana ETPL. Then you get an Individual Training Account paid to the school directly. The Louisiana guide covers the statewide rules. This page covers New Orleans.
Where do you go: JOB1 Business and Career Solutions Center locations
JOB1 runs the Business and Career Solutions Center for Orleans Parish, with intake, assessment, workshops, and training referrals. Jefferson Parish and the north shore have their own regional boards and centers. Confirm hours and the pre-screening form on nola.gov/job1.
Out-of-school youth 16 to 24 are served through JOB1 youth programs and city partners rather than adult intake.
Who qualifies in New Orleans?
- Adult program: 18 or older, able to work legally, and signed up for Selective Service if that applies to you. Training money goes first to people on public assistance, people with low income, and people who need basic skills. Veterans and eligible spouses go ahead of others in every program.
- Dislocated Worker program: laid off or given notice, on unemployment or ran out of it, WARN-affected workers, displaced homemakers, and formerly self-employed workers. Hospitality and tourism layoffs, storm-related closures, and offshore energy cuts make the Dislocated Worker door a busy one in New Orleans.
- Youth program: 14 to 24 with at least one barrier to work. Most of the money goes to out-of-school youth 16 to 24.
