Does WIOA pay for CNA classes in Colorado?
Yes, when the program is on the Colorado Eligible Training Provider List and the job is in demand for your local board. Yes. Certified nursing assistant programs are on every state's Eligible Training Provider List and the job is on nearly every in-demand list. It is the single most common healthcare program boards fund. The money comes as an Individual Training Account (ITA) that a Colorado Workforce Center issues and pays straight to the school. WIOA is a grant; you do not pay it back if you finish.
No statewide cap; each of the ten local areas sets its own. Ask your counselor for the area cap and whether funds remain this program year. The federal index counts 26 CNA programs in Colorado, out of 658 listed programs.

- Patient care technician bundle (CNA + phlebotomy + EKG) (8 to 20 weeks). The hospital-oriented version. Boards fund it where hospitals are on the regional list.
- Medication aide add-on (4 to 8 weeks). Available in some states; raises pay in long-term care.

Where you apply in Colorado
Colorado Department of Labor and Employment runs WIOA in Colorado. You apply in person at a Colorado Workforce Center; ten local workforce areas (Denver Workforce Services, Adams County, Larimer County among the largest); your area sets the cap.
Registration starts on Connecting Colorado. Find the nearest center through the state locator at cdle.colorado.gov. Commonly three to eight weeks from first appointment to a funded seat.
Who qualifies for a WIOA CNA grant in Colorado?
- Adult program: 18 or older, able to work legally, and signed up for Selective Service if that applies to you. Training money goes first to people on public assistance, people with low income, and people who need basic skills. Veterans and eligible spouses go ahead of others in every program.
- Dislocated Worker program: laid off or given notice, on unemployment or ran out of it, or formerly self-employed.
- Youth program: 16 to 24 and out of school, or in school and low income.
The state runs a criminal background check before you can be placed on the nurse aide registry, and some convictions are permanent bars in every state. Clinical sites require immunizations and a TB test. Ask the school which convictions block placement before you use a training account on it.
Bring photo ID, your Social Security card, proof you can work, and income or layoff papers. Veterans bring the DD-214.
How to apply for WIOA CNA funding in Colorado
- Register on Connecting Colorado; most local areas require it for WIOA intake.
- Find your Workforce Center at cdle.colorado.gov/workforce-centers and book intake.
- Complete the assessment and Individual Employment Plan with your counselor.
- Choose a program on the Colorado ETPL that is in-demand for your area and receive the ITA.
At the counselor conversation: Ask which CNA programs are on the ETPL, whether the board funds CNA on its own or as the first step of a nursing plan, and whether the exam fee and background check are covered.
When you pick the program: Compare clinical hours, the state exam pass rate, whether the exam fee is in the price, the start dates, and which facilities host the clinical, because those facilities hire their trainees.

After the registry: the facility interview
CNA interviews are short and behavioral. A director of nursing asks how you handle a resident who refuses care, a fall, and a coworker who cuts corners, and listens for patience and for reporting up the chain. Graduates who answer those out loud in order get hired at the clinical site. Rehearse those three before the clinical ends.
