What it takes to become a CNA
Finish a state-approved nursing assistant program. It mixes classroom work with supervised clinical work, and it is taught at high schools, community colleges, vocational schools, hospitals and nursing homes.
Pass your state's competency exam. Some states use the title Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Passing puts you on the state registry, which you need to work in a nursing home. Some states also require continuing education and a criminal background check.
