The Department of Labor recognizes over a thousand apprenticeable occupations; these templates cover the ones we build most. A different occupation follows the same structure.
The main costs are apprentice wages during on-the-job training, related instruction tuition, and mentor time. WIOA offsets a real share: boards reimburse 50 to 75 percent of apprentice wages through OJT contracts, and Individual Training Accounts can pay the classroom portion for eligible apprentices.
A single-employer sponsor holds the registration, standards, and reporting. Under a group sponsor or intermediary, they hold the registration while you employ and train the apprentices, which is faster to launch with less control.
The time-based convention is roughly 2,000 on-the-job hours per year under a mentor plus at least 144 hours per year of related instruction, adjusted per occupation at registration.
